Welfare was started to help single mothers support their children after a lot of men walked away to become hobo's during the great depression. It was intended to help the mother take care of her children until she could get a job, then stop. But like everything, the government began to pervert it over the years until its become a socialist/communist system of big government taking care of people from cradle to the grave and going from one generation to the next while buying votes. Finally as its bankrupting our society and pushing our government into deep debt, people realize we must do something about it. Better late than never I guess. We've got to learn to stop falling for all the lies they use to try and shame people into feeling guilty if they stand up to them. Its always millions of children will go hungry, children will die if we don't increase the bennies, think of the children. I'm not heartless, I donate to the local food bank to help feed the poor in my community. But they vet the people before they can receive the food to make sure their not abusing the system. I'll also give to homeless beggars, but I tell them the story of the prodigal son and how living for the world put him in a homeless situation and to read the Bible and pray about it and seek God. The government doesn't, its the more the merrier because that's job security. I've seen the same thing in the educational system, we need more money to educate the children, yet our children are failing. But hey, my small town high school can shoot off lots of fireworks every Friday night at the football games while the students learn trash and give up thinking they don't need no education, they are entitled to socialist programs. So all the money we've been throwing at education hasn't been used for the children, it was used to enrich the ones who are responsible for spending it. I fully support getting the corruption cleaned up and holding them accountable.
