I remember reading about the destruction of Damascus years ago when the Syrian Civil War was 1st raging and approximately 2/3 of Damascus was a ruinous heap at that time. My memory isn't the best these days, but if I remember right, Damascus has been destroyed 3 times in world history. Isaiah 17 prophesies its destruction. So this doesn't surprise me. I don't have strong historical recourses to read up on, but I believe the new leader of the area was Tiglath-pileser. There were Tilgath-pileser 1, 2, and 3. So perhaps the new leader shall be Tilgath-pileser 4. Its very possible this will set the stage for Ezekiel 38-39. Its not great news in the short term, however, it all must come to pass before the Lord Jesus Christ returns. President Trump needs to use wisdom and seek the advice of Jewish and Christian leaders who know those prophesies well and the history behind them. ME history is repeating itself.
